Here at YCB, we make a point to reach out to other crafty individuals out there trying to make a difference. One of our favorites is the greenologist from Boston. A cleaver, crafty woman who not only delivers tasty produce to customers all over the B-town area (www.gogreenologist.com), but also has a blog where she is crafting up ways to rid herself of all that old stuff hanging around, without creating too much waste. She calls it “spring cleaning, zero waste” and she has had plenty of challenges for us crafty bitches. First, we helped her reuse the millions of little jewelry boxes that seem to accumulate over the years. And now.....we’re tackling all those old CD’s.
You know the ones, scratched, damaged, or simply cause you to cringe at the thought that you possibly could have listened to that band.....ever. Hence, disc-o inferno. What a better way to reuse old CDs than to turn them into the greatest prop disco has ever come up with, the disco ball! We had a lot of fun with this one, so enjoy.
What you’ll need:
old CD’s (~12-15)
piece of old wire
hot glue
scissors
styrofoam ball (we got this at a local craft store....but think there has also got to be a better way to do this other than using styrofoam, an old beach or soccer ball, perhaps? maybe someone out there has another brilliant idea.)

step 1: break those CD’s, bitches! we thought this would be oh, so simple with a brown bag and a hammer, but well, we were wrong. CD’s are pretty indestructible these days. so, we went with a good old pair of sharp scissors and cut away.

step 2: stick the wire through the styrofoam ball, and bend at the bottom to secure the wire. then, cut the wire about 1 inch from the top of the ball and bend it into a hook so you have something to hang your disc-o ball with.

step 3: glue away my friends. try and overlap the pieces as much as you can so you see as little styrofoam as possible, but don’t stress too much....this is suppose to be fun, not a work of art.

step 4: dance your pants off.
